SAP Business One made its debut in Israel in 1996, initially known as "Menahel" or "TopManage" for international markets. Reuven Agassi, the founder of the company, led its inception, with Gadi Shamia designing the product and Hilla Mazinter serving as the head developer.
Initially, TopManage exclusively operated in the Israeli
market, pioneering the introduction of the first Windows/Mac business
management solution. By 2000, TopManage commenced its global expansion,
reaching markets across Europe and Latin America.
In March 2002, SAP acquired the financial systems of
TopManage, subsequently rebranding it as SAP Business One. Reuven Agassi and
Gadi Shamia, the founders of TopManage, assumed executive roles at SAP
following the acquisition. Notably, a year earlier, SAP had also acquired
"TopTier," a sister company of TopManage.
SAP has continually enhanced SAP Business One through
acquisitions. In 2005, the reporting and budgeting function, XL Reporter, was
acquired from iLytix Systems AS in Norway. Additionally, SAP integrated
web-based CRM and e-commerce functionalities from Praxis Software Solutions,
based in Minneapolis, acquired in 2006.
SAP Business One offers both on-premises and cloud deployment
options, accessible remotely via a mobile application. The software is
primarily distributed through a partner network, comprising approximately 700
value-added resellers as of 2018. Furthermore, the partner network has
developed over 500 industry-specific applications, as reported by SAP. By 2018,
SAP claimed to have amassed more than 60,000 customers.
